From Olivia Sweet, Bob's wife October 10, 2000
Hi Friends,
I have some news that I thought I would pass on to you.
As you know Bob works for the county Sheriff's Dept and has been a
Road Deputy since coming to Albemarle. He has enjoyed that, but for
about a year, we had included in our prayers a request that he find
employment working Mon thru Fri from 8 to 5 so that he could be home at
nights and on weekends and so he would be able to attend church on a
regular basis. We couldn't think of a job that would fill this request,
but the request was made nevertheless.
The answer arrived a month ago. Bob has been reassigned as the
D.A.R.E. officer for the county schools. This is the drug resistance
program that is given in 17 lesson plans to the 5th and/or 6th grades
with a safety program given to the lower grades. He attended school in
Charlotte for his trainning and has been working with the kids now for
this his third week, and he loves it. I personally knew that he would
be so good at this. And he is!! It is so wonderful to have him home at
nights with fun news to tell about his day. God answered our prayer with
a position better than we thought possible. We are so blessed.
Thank you for letting me share our good news. We hope everything is
going well for you too. Let us hear from you.

I
owe Olivia Sweet an e-mail so I will pass on to her your request for Bob to
get in touch with you. He is
going to school studying Law Enforcement and
thinks
he may continue and get a masters degree so he can teach.

I've
been e-mailing a lot with Bob Sweet's wife, Olivia.
She is his second - from NC so we have never met, but have exchanged
pictures via snail mail and
enjoy
writing to each other. Bob and I went to the Jr prom together.
I was dating Russ at the time, but didn't want him to go with me
since he didn't know anyone - plus I wanted to stay out and party and knew my
mother
wouldn't
let me if I asked him to go with me.
Bob and I were just good friends. (Russ was first husband

Bob
Sweet is living in one of the Carolinas now and is a Deputy Sheriff in what we
in Law Enforcement call a "Cow County" (means the biggest crime in
the
county is still cattle rustling)

I
am still in law enforcement and eligible to retire any time. I got my time
(years of service and age) in last December so I can go anytime, but my wife
tells
me
I am to young to retire. I will
stay until the next election in November, if the present
Sheriff wins re-election I will stay. If he loses then I will probably retire.
I have been teaching the DARE program for the last two years and
absolutely
love
it. It is like having a new lease
on life. . I enjoyed the patrol
duty but I did not enjoy
working nights and weekends. That
is for someone much younger than I.
Life here in the Carolinas is wonderful. My wife was born and raised in the house that we are living
in so that is pretty neat for her and I love this area.
(even
though they do not think very highly of Yankees) We are three hours
from the beach and three hours from the mountains, so we have the
best of both worlds. Hope to see Dick and Becky in their new hideaway sometime
soon.

I
am still going to school. I
finally got my BS in Criminal Justice last May from a small four year
university here in the county where we live, after 36 years
of
trying. I enjoyed it so much that
I am getting my Masters in Criminal Justice
with the hope that I can teach CJ at the community college level
when I finish. There is a
community college here in Albemarle where I have been promised
a
job teaching next spring.
I am taking my Master's on line.
It is a completely different way of learning. A lot of reading and writing papers and communicating via the
internet. What
did
we do before computers?
