Robert Campbell graduated from Vestal in 1965. While at Vestal he was a football, track and basketball standout, setting numerous records that would take years to be surpassed. Track accomplishments included: world record in 1962 for a 15 year old in
the high jump, with a jump of 6' 41/2"; in 1963 set a New York state record in high jump ( 6' 51/2" ); set a section IV record for the 220 yard dash with a time of 22 seconds in 1964; and set a school record for the 220 yard dash with a time of 21.3 seconds
in 1964. STAC record for the most points scored in a season, total yards rushing, total yards per carry: All American in 1964,
set a STAC record for total yards rushing in a career (2,681yards). Basketball highlights included: STAC all-star team 1964
and 1965: school record for most points in a game (36), school record most points in a season 399. He also played baseball in his senior year and set records for number of hits and stolen bases.
After graduation, Bob attended Penn State University. He played for the division I football team from 1966 to 1969 as a running back and a punter. In 1969 he was named MVP in the Orange Bowl. He set records for the longest scoring run and punting
average in a single game. Bob received a BS in Health and Physical Education and Recreation. He was drafted to the NFL and played with
the Pittsburgh Steelers on special teams. After his professional football career, Bob attended SUNY at Cortland
where he received his MS in Physical Education in 1972. Currently he is enrolled at Hood College where he is pursuing his second MS in
Education Leadership. In 1999 he was nominated by the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin as the Athlete of the
Century. Besides working towards his second masters Bob is a physical education teacher at Thurmont Middle School in the Fredrick County School system, in Maryland. He has been a teacher for 28 years. He is also an offensive back coach for the
Gettysburg College football team. In 1998-2000 he was selected to the Who's Who Among Americas Teachers. He spends time volunteering with the missions at his church in outreach programs and teaches Sunday school. He and his wife live in Fredrick,
Maryland.
